One of the next challenges, along with the Haiku Challenge, is the Limerick Challenge.
Limericks are fun to write
But they have to be done alright
For those of you,
Who haven't a clue
On this may I shed some light
(That took longer than I thought it would)
A Limerick is a humorous, 5-line poem that has a rhyme scheme of AABBA consisting of a triplet (A) and a couplet (B). When first used they were often obscene and rather naughty, I ask that you please refrain from getting too scandalous =0. The first, second, and fifth lines (or all the A's) have three beats, while the third and fourth (or all the B's) have 2 beats. A beat can be counted by clapping or snapping your fingers.
For example:
There once(1) was a man(2) from Peru.(3)
Who dreamed(1) he was eating(2) a shoe.(3)
He awoke(1) with a fright.(2)
In the mid(1)dle of the night.(2)
And found(1) it was per(2)fectly true!

this one may also help
www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Limerick
And NEVER forget! A limerick needs a "Punchline" or strange twist in the last line to make it funny, usually the first 4 lines form a story and the last line ends it in a Bang!
P.S. All manner of literary devices including, yes puns, hyperboles, alliterations, and word play, are often used in limericks. Thats what is so fun and challenging about a limerick, they have a strict form, with so much flexiblility!
Thanks to all those who contributed an entry.
